In this week's video, I'm discussing the Grisaille Method.

The video shows an excerpt from the workshop "Baby Luke"!

I show you a couple of different segments toward the middle of this drawing process.

I start by adding the initial layers of one of the darkest pencils to describe the shadows. In this case, I used Faber-Castell, Polychromos Caput Mortuum #169.

I enjoy capturing the essence of individuals, especially those with a special place in my heart.

Using personal photo references or drawing family members deepens that emotional tie to the artwork. Even with commissioned pieces, you can still sense the emotion and love for the person you're drawing.

Everyone is a unique individual, and as artists, we get to immortalize that uniqueness in a way that goes beyond a mere photo. :)
